ELEMENTARY CHOIR

The Elementary Choir offers a greater diversity in individual attentiveness, repertoire, vocal skills, theory requirements and performance demands. To enter Elementary Choir, choristers must have demonstrated basic vocal and musical competence, and obtained preparatory sight-reading concepts and skills. Choristers will be prepared to be more confident of their abilities and more independent in their work. Rehearsal concentration and performance demands are increased.


SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • One and one-half hours rehearsal period plus Saturday Academy for voice and theory
  • To have basic comprehension of Preparatory Choir objectives
  • To become confident singing two-part repertoire
  • To have increased attention span throughout a rehearsal
  • To support vocal tone for accurate intonation and focus *
  • To sing with clean attack on each pitch*
  • To perform with security in sight singing evaluations
  • To adjust tone color or intonation for blending and tuning*
  • To be able to vary dynamics, duration and attack as indicated by symbols and terminology in Elementary Choir repertoire*
  • To take initiative to learn music quickly and accurately
  • To respond quickly and accurately to cues given by conductor
  • To continue the development of theory concepts
  • To expand theory knowledge, according to score demands
  • To learn basic sight-reading concepts
  • To continue to develop the concept of head voice and activated muscles of breath support*
  • To learn to sing in foreign languages*
  • To understand and practice performance skills*
  • To develop understanding and expression of text
  • To be supportive of fellow choristers
  • To memorize 25-30 minutes of repertoire each semester
  • To treat SACC commitment with responsibility and integrity
  • To perform in at least four major concerts throughout the year (Fall, winter, spring, school tour)
  • Maximum of four extra concerts per year
